Wildfire season in 2021 was catastrophic for many parts of the western U.S., particularly California. And 2023 isn’t shaping up to be much better, given the effects of climate change on weather patterns, especially rainfall.

The time to prepare for your fire department's wildland firefighting Radios needs for 2023 is now. Last year’s heavy wildfire activity had fire departments scrambling to get the wildland firefighting Radio Communications they needed. That demand was exacerbated by the extraordinary number of requests for additional firefighters from across the U.S. to respond to those fires in California and other western states.

The National Interagency Fire Center statistics show that, as of Aug. 13, 2023, there have been 34,045 fires this year that have burned just over 1.6 million acres. This is significantly below the 10-year average (2013-2022) of 37,058 fires and the average acreage of 4.3 million acres.
